If your credit union is only seen in the phonebook or by cars driving by, it’s time to change that. Everybody is on social media these days. There are grandmas all over Facebook. If you want to reach these grandmas, their kids and grandkids, you need to be more heavily involved on social media. Here are some ways you can get the ball rolling.

Get some accounts: If you don’t already have social media accounts for your credit union, sign up for all the “big ones.” Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram are great places to start. Try Google+ and YouTube as well. Be patient as you build a following and over time you’ll be able to focus on the platforms that give you the best response.

Figure out which social dashboard is right for you: When it comes to social media marketing, there are plenty of options to choose from. Platforms like Buffer, Hootsuite, and Sprout Social can help you easily schedule and track content across all your social channels.

Engage you audience: If you want your members to be ambassadors for your brand, you have to make a connection that will inspire them to recommend you to others. Post valuable content that will help them improve their lives, and you’ll see that content shared over and over again. Get members involved. Ask questions, get opinions and listen to what they have to say.

Create content and post a lot: Video is hot, so experiment with some video ideas, get them uploaded to your YouTube page, and push them out on your social channels. Post on Facebook often, and tweet even more. While you can’t put links in Instagram posts, you can use a photo with the ever popular “link in bio” caption.

The bottom line is this: If you provide your members with valuable content on social media, not only will you see relationship growth, but you’ll see membership growth as well.
